Manchester United are monitoring the situation of Chelsea full-back
Ashley Cole after telling Everton they will not increase their £12m
offer for Leighton Baines.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been after a new left back all
summer after allowing Fabio Da Silva to join QPR on loan, leaving
Patrice Evra as the only left-back in United's senior squad, so they
were keen to add Baines to their line up.
However David Moyes does not want to sell Baines and is holding out
for top money for the 27-year-old, regarded by many as England's first
choice left-back in the long term.
Ferguson is now said to be watching the Ashley Cole situation at
Stamford Bridge, Cole is entering the final year of his deal and as yet
has not been offered a new one so the United boss may move to try and
land him for a fraction of the price Baines would cost.
