Manchester United have reportedly put a £12million limit on any bid for Everton full-back Leighton Baines.
The Red Devils have been linked with a bid for the 27-year-old England
international, whom Sir Alex Ferguson is said to regard as a successor
for the 31-year-old Patrice Evra.
However, Goal.com is reporting this morning that United will pay no more than £12million for a player who is valued by Everton at £17million.
Last week, Sir Alex said the left-back position was one the club were
looking at because of Evra’s work-load of around 45-50 games a year
over the past five years. Left-back Fabio da Silva, who has deputised for Evra on a number of occasions, recently joined QPR on a season-long loan.
Baines has been quiet on the possibility of a move away from
Goodison, His last public comment on the issue came at the end of May
when he said: “The United link is flattering. There is no harm in people
talking about it because it is a great club, but I’m at a great club as
well, a club that I love.”
