Arsenal striker Robin van Persie will want a £220,000 a week pay packet if he joins Manchester United.
The Sunday Express claims the Dutch striker is demanding parity with the club’s highest-paid player, Wayne Rooney ,should he move to the club. United are one of three clubs – along with Manchester City and Juventus – who have made bids to sign van Persie.
The paper claims that Old Trafford is van Persie’s favoured
destination but United must agree to pay a transfer fee with Arsenal.
The Gunners’ board are demanding £20million while manager Arsene Wenger
values van Persie – who turns 29 next week – at £30million.
Van Persie has already turned down an offer of £130,000 to stay with
Arsenal and has received one of around £190,000 a week from Serie A side
Juventus. Reports have also claimed that he agreed a deal worth
£220,000 a week with Manchester City as long ago as March, but City need
to sell one of their front four before they can buy and are having
difficulty shifting either Carlos Tevez or Edin Dzeko.
