Sir Alex Ferguson spent much of the summer reportedly looking to
bring in a creative midfielder and even put in a big money offer for
Brazilian teenager Lucas Moura but this source believes that the Scot
has now set his sights on a new target to fill a role he appears keen to
deal with.
However that said it does seem highly unlikely Cesc
Fabregas would look to leave Barcelona any time soon. The former Nou
Camp youth team player spent eight years at Arsenal before making an
emotional return to the Catalan club last summer and talk of the Spanish
international being unhappy are probably being blown out of all
proportion.
The substance of such exit talk surrounds the
midfielder’s apparent unhappiness about playing only a supporting role
in the Barcelona squad, however Fabregas has started all the club’s La
Liga matches this season so one wonders whether such issues are based in
reality.
That isn’t to say that Man United wouldn’t welcome the
addition of a forward thinking central midfield option especially given
that Paul Scholes is nearing the end of his glittering career and
Michael Carrick doesn’t occupy as advanced a position as he once did.
Darren
Fletcher faces an uncertain future after returning from a long term
illness and Tom Cleverley is yet to prove himself with a sustained run
in the first team.
Barcelona spent £22m to bring Fabregas back
from North London a year ago and are unlikely to entertain the notion of
offers for the 25 year old.
