Rooney At United for Life

Wayne Rooney has spoken exclusively to Sky Sports to reveal he wants to see out his career at Manchester United and how his recent horror injury was only a millimetre away from an artery.
Rooney was interviewed by Andy Burton ahead of the launch of his new book - My Decade in the Premier League - and gave a unique insight into his time with the Red Devils and Everton.
England's star striker burst onto the scene as a precociously talented 16-year-old in 2002, fully justifying all the hype over his potential with a stunning strike against Arsenal as he beat Gunners great David Seaman from outside the box to secure a 2-1 triumph for the Toffees

He made the move to Old Trafford in August 2004, with the £20million invested in his services by Sir Alex Ferguson worth every single penny following a return of 181 goals from his 367 appearances - taking him to fourth place on the club's all-time record goal scorers' list and with Sir Bobby Charlton's legendary tally of 249 within his sights.
The 26-year-old is under contract with United until June 2015 after signing a new and improved five-year deal back in 2010 following an unforgettable few days when he asked to leave the club - a moment he regards as his biggest mistake - before performing a dramatic U-turn.

Michael Carrick discusses his personal international renaissance

In The Express, Michael Carrick discusses his personal international renaissance with the national team, after Three Lions boss Hodgson recalled the midfielder for last month’s friendly win over Italy, following two years of exile. “My ego is not that big that I think I should be playing every game for England,” the Reds star says. “I don’t need assurances or guarantees of any kind, just a fair chance.”

Keane can return stronger

Manchester United striker Will Keane is working hard in order to ensure he returns from injury better than ever.
The highly-rated 19 year-old suffered cruciate knee ligament damage in May and is expected to be sidelined for some time.
Although United have since signed two more forwards in Robin van Persie and Angelo Henriquez, Sir Alex Ferguson is known to hold Keane in high regard and had promised him a place in the first-team squad for this season.
"Will's working very hard in the gym," Under-21s boss Warren Joyce informed ManUtd.com. "He's got to make the most of a bad time really and see how much he can develop his body in the coming months so he comes back even stronger.
"If he does that, he's got something from a really bad piece of luck and benefited from it."
Keane sustained the injury whilst on international duty with England Under-19s at the end of last season, which caused him to miss the European Championship finals. Sam Johnstone, Tom Thorpe and Will's twin Michael helped Noel Blake's side reach the semi-finals before an extra-time exit to Greece.
"They did well as a group but I think, if Keane and Larnell Cole had been fit, they would have gone further than they did in the tournament," added Joyce.

Roy backs Rooney

Rooney still fits in with RoyRoy Hodgson insists Wayne Rooney is still his main man. The Manchester United striker is missing from tonight’s World Cup qualifier in Moldova because of a gashed leg. But there have been questions about his general fitness and he has admitted to returning to pre-season training in the past out of condition. Hodgson, though, is standing firmly by Rooney and feels he is integral to his World Cup plans. He declared: “I don’t have any concerns. He’s a top striker and someone I want in the squad. We’re talking about a star. And when a star maybe does not reach the level expected of him, criticism follows. But I have no criticism of him or his fitness. I’d dispute the fact he wasn’t fit at the Euros. What he does in pre-season is a matter for Sir Alex Ferguson and his club. I can’t make Wayne Rooney fit. I hope to see him in the United team fit and playing well, so I can welcome him back into the England squad.”

Carrick: Best years ahead

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick believes his best football is still to come.
The 31-year-old has long been an integral part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s plans and hopes he can continue to play at the top level for a number of years.
“Hopefully I’m a better player now than I was a couple of years ago,” he told reporters.
“I feel I have improved and I’m hoping to still improve. I’ve just turned 31 and the peak time in players’ careers seems to be a little bit later so hopefully that carries on and I’ve still got the best years ahead of me.”
Carrick’s comments came from inside the England camp in Moldova, where the Three Lions are preparing for Friday night's World Cup qualifier and the midfielder’s personal international renaissance continues. Last month Carrick pulled on an England shirt for the first time in more than two years to finally bring to an end a frustrating chapter in what has otherwise been a career strewn with highlights and silverware .
After suffering the ignominy of travelling to the 2010 World Cup and never setting foot on the pitch, Carrick was then overlooked entirely by Roy Hodgson for this summer’s European Championship, a decision that appeared to signal the end of his international career.
Hodgson, however, claimed it had all been a big misunderstanding. The England boss believed Carrick had asked not to be selected; the player insists that was never the case.
With everybody now clear on where they stand, Michael again finds himself at the heart of England’s
plans ahead of a major tournament, and at a time when Hodgson has dismissed talk he’s planning to “freshen up” his squad by getting rid of ageing stars.
“It’s good news for me,” Carrick said. “I'm in that over-30 bracket now, which seems to have come around quite quickly.
“Because of the way we look after ourselves, the peak years of a player nowadays is nudging a little bit further on. I look at people like Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs and they are still playing great football in their late 30s so that gives me enough inspiration.
“It was great to play [for England] again. It was over two years since my last cap so it just reflected what I felt like when I got my first cap many years ago.
“To get that feeling again was really special and I really appreciated playing for my country again and the honour that brings. It was a special night for me. I know it was only a friendly and coming early in the season some people see it as low key but for me it was a special night.
“Every ex-footballer that I have come across has said ‘play as long as you can’ because once it is finished there is no going back. I appreciate how lucky I am to be in this position and I’ll try and drag it out as long as possible.”

Cesc Fabregas To Man United?

Sir Alex Ferguson spent much of the summer reportedly looking to bring in a creative midfielder and even put in a big money offer for Brazilian teenager Lucas Moura but this source believes that the Scot has now set his sights on a new target to fill a role he appears keen to deal with.
However that said it does seem highly unlikely Cesc Fabregas would look to leave Barcelona any time soon. The former Nou Camp youth team player spent eight years at Arsenal before making an emotional return to the Catalan club last summer and talk of the Spanish international being unhappy are probably being blown out of all proportion.
The substance of such exit talk surrounds the midfielder’s apparent unhappiness about playing only a supporting role in the Barcelona squad, however Fabregas has started all the club’s La Liga matches this season so one wonders whether such issues are based in reality.
That isn’t to say that Man United wouldn’t welcome the addition of a forward thinking central midfield option especially given that Paul Scholes is nearing the end of his glittering career and Michael Carrick doesn’t occupy as advanced a position as he once did.
Darren Fletcher faces an uncertain future after returning from a long term illness and Tom Cleverley is yet to prove himself with a sustained run in the first team.
Barcelona spent £22m to bring Fabregas back from North London a year ago and are unlikely to entertain the notion of offers for the 25 year old.

EXCLUSIVE: SAF Interview on Angelo Henriquez

"We have a proud record of developing young talent and Angelo fits the profile of a United player – skilful, attacking and someone who plays the game with real flair.”

Henriquez himself is equally excited at the prospect of pulling on the red shirt: “I am thrilled to be joining the biggest club in the world. Manchester United is a great team and has a great manager.

"To be able to be part of that is a huge honour and I can’t wait to get started.  I hope I can be part of many successful years with United.”
